Audi MedCup: Portugal Trophy Presented in Lisbon

In preparation for the fourth event of the 2009 Audi MedCup Circuit, the Portugal Trophy was presented to media, sponsors and institutions in Lisbon on Tuesday 7th July.

Barclays Premier, whose lavish offices are housed in the stunning Palácio Sottomayor, hosted the presentation, which was attended by the Portugal Trophy event organisers, João Lagos Sports, and by Audi MedCup Circuit Technical Director, Nacho Postigo as well as José Mª Medes Silva, the Marketing Director of Barclays Portugal.

Postigo, re-stated again just how much the competing teams and the Audi MedCup Circuit organisation look forward to the event in Portimão, which has consistently revealed faultless organisation as well as excellent conditions out on the Atlantic off the Algarve coast.

"The Audi MedCup Circuit travels to Portimão for the third consecutive year and is a great success due to the support of the Portugal Tourism Board, City of Portimão and João Lagos Sports in particular," highlighted Nacho Postigo.

"It will be especially interesting because already this season the Portuguese entry, Bigamist has been the revelation. The team is currently ranked fifth and performing very well with a primarily Portuguese crew. I am proud for the Circuit that they are doing so well, and Portugal too must be proud of their team," concluded Postigo.

“It is hugely important for Portugal to organise an annual event and this is the number one sailing event in Portugal. In the past we have hosted one off events, but organising a regular event is key to maintaining the interest particularly as Portugal has the natural conditions which are perfect for the TP52 Series and the GP42 Series,” explained João Lagos.

The Portugal Trophy will take place in Portimão from 18th to 23rd August.
