America's Cup: NEWSFLASH - It's America's Cup Once More!

by SailRaceWin

In the second race, which ended nearly in darkness off Valencia, on Sunday, 14th February, BMW ORACLE Racing's USA made it 2-0 to take the America's Cup Deed of Gift Match and win the Auld Mug.

The Swiss Alinghi team had Alinghi 5 set up much better today on the first leg, helped by being on the right side of a right shift, to be only 28 seconds behind their opponents at the windward mark. USA extended her lead, stretching her legs to hit speeds of over 30 knots on the two reaches. Alinghi 5 was reckoned to be about 12% slower on the first reach. The second reach ended in a lighter patch for USA, giving a final delta of 5 minutes and 26 seconds, after Alinghi 5 had taken the penalty incurred for not being outside the starboard end in time before her entry to the pre-start.

The boats headed back to port in Valencia in twilight for the celebrations to begin.
