Australian A-Cat Nationals Day 2 Report

by SailRaceWin

On day two of the Australian A-cat Nationals at Lake Cootharaba, Queensland, the breeze built rapidly to 15 knots just as the boats were leaving the beach. There was a mad rush to change battens for the more breezy conditions. Two races were held again on day 2; 15 knot winds for Race 3, and 12 knots for Race 4.

It was Glenn Ashby's day, as he scored two bullets, to take the overall event lead. The first three were the same in both races: Ashby, Brewin and Barker (NZL), in that order. Places 4 and 5 were swapped between Bundock and Landenberger in the two races held on 4th January.

After four races without a discard, Glenn Ashby leads the series on 11 points, with Bundock and Landenberger tied on 14 points in second place, and Emirates Team New Zealand's Dean Barker, who has been improving by the day, in fourth place on 16 points.

Many thanks to Darren Bundock for information from the event. SailRaceWin had been promised press material on the Australian A-Cat Nationals from the organisers, but none has been received.

See SailRaceWin's Twitter for a re-Tweet of images of Glenn Ashby's capsize in Race 2, on day one.
