The young antipodeans, Torvar Mirsky from Perth, WA, and Adam Minoprio from Auckland, defeated last year's third and first placed skippers on the Tour, Mathieu Richard (2-0) and Ian Williams (2-1), respectively, to meet in the Finals of the Troia Portugal Match Cup Sunday afternoon local time.
The fact that BlackMatch Racing is competing in the finals of the Troia Portugal Match Cup, and the positions of the other competitors, means that they will finish this event with a lead on the World Match Racing Tour scoreboard of at least 10 points over their nearest rival.
However, there is still all to play for on the Tour in 2009, as only the top five results plus the final event count towards the overall scorecard. This is illustrated by the fact that Ben Ainslie of TEAMORIGIN has competed in just two events this year, finishing first and third, and has a good points tally (40 points) from just these two competitions already.
The top four finishers at the Troia Portugal Match Cup are now the top four on the World Match Racing Tour leaderboard.
