Three races were all that were needed for us to secure our spot in the Semi Final of the Sunseeker Australia Cup, as we won three hotly contested matches on the trot against Frenchman Mathieu Richard. The other semi finalists are Ben Ainslie who defeated fellow Kiwi Phil Robertson 3-1, Torvar Mirsky who amazingly came back from 2 nil down to defeat Francesco Bruni and the big surprise of the regatta was local Keith Swinton managing to down World Champion Ian Williams 3-1.
Although winning our match up against Mathieu and his team 3 nil, it was not an easy task and we certainly didn’t have it all our way as the scoreboard may suggest, however the team always seemed to hit their straps when it counted and came away with the victory.
Our semi final opponent is yet to be decided with Torvar Mirsky given the option of who to race due to his win in the round robin and his decision will not be known until the morning. However if the Australian Cup is anything to go by next weeks show down in Malaysia should be an absolute cracker so who knows, perhaps Torvar and his team will choose to race us tomorrow, just to spice things up a bit before the big event.
BlackMatch is Adam Minoprio, Dan Mclean, Tom Powrie, Nick Blackman and David Swete and we would like to thank our sponsor FedEx Express for their incredible support. We would also like to make a special mention to the support we receive from Emirates Team New Zealand and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadran.
