For the KRYS MATCH, the MOD70 circuit will be making a stopover in the world renowned sailing hub of La Trinité sur Mer, South-West Brittany France. At the first official gathering of the MOD70 fleet, scheduled for 6, 7 and 8 October 2011, Race for Water, Veolia Environnement and Foncia – the first three 70 foot one-design trimarans to be launched – will put on a show in the company of Gitana 11 – a 77 foot prototype trimaran, equipped by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild which the team is sailing in preparation for the launch of their own MOD70 Nr.4. Powering up on some speed runs and realising the potential of the crews during some coastal courses around the bay of Quiberon, are just some of the ways of fulfilling the objectives of the KRYS MATCH: namely to reveal and demonstrate the potential of these ultra-sophisticated one-design machines to one and all.
La Trinité sur Mer, forever a busy port:
Nestled at the heart of the Baie de Quiberon, just a stone’s throw from the Golfe du Morbihan, La Trinité sur Mer enjoys the charm of an authentic Breton fishing village as well as the tranquillity of a seaside resort. Alternating between the role of a commercial port, a fishing port and a marina, La Trinité has always been a centre for activities linked to the sea.Indeed it is ocean racing which has determined the rapid development of yachting in the town with the notable Ostar victory of 1964 going to Pen Duick II, a ketch built in La Trinité. Having thus become a port of registry for a host of renowned skippers, it’s only natural that the pontoons of this reference port will be playing host to the trimarans competing in the KRYS MATCH between two of the famous winter training weekends provided by the local Société Nautique (Nautical Society).

Yves Normand, Mayor of La Trinité sur Mer: “La Trinité sur Mer is a showcase for yachting as well as numerous boats which are ocean racing icons. Having witnessed the emergence and development of the first multihulls, today La Trinité sur Mer is still a port of registry for hundreds of the finest references of the day. The MOD70s are very much a continuation of the multihull legend and their stopover in La Trinité sur Mer will come as further evidence of our desire to remain one of the reference ports in ocean racing. This series promises to get a lot of coverage and we’re honoured to be participating in the first event on its baptismal waters. We have a great welcome in store for the first 3 craft of the series, as well as all the circuit’s protagonists. Welcome to La Trinité sur Mer on 6, 7 and 8 October 2011!”
Marco Simeoni, CEO of MOD S.A: “We’re delighted that La Trinité sur Mer is supporting us in the KRYS MATCH. This town is perfectly suited to hosting nautical events; its expertise and that of the Société Nautique (S.N.T) are a real guarantee of competitive success. With support from representatives and, I’m sure, that of the locals in and around La Trinité, the MOD70s will relish this first intense friendly of the KRYS MATCH series.”
KRYS, a partner with a personal stake in the KRYS OCEAN RACE:
Arnaud Ploix, Managing Director of Krys Group: “With a presence at the first race of the MOD70 circuit in 2012 and a repeat performance in 2014, it is both logical and coherent for KRYS to put a lot of effort into these initial three exhibition days. The KRYS MATCH will be an opportunity to have a general rehearsal. It will enable us to understand the structures of this sport and have a better grasp of the MOD70s themselves. We’re keen to get to La Trinité sur Mer so as we and the crews can be enthralled.”

In fact, a few lucky people have already had a taste of the spectacle because on Tuesday 21 June, the two MOD70s performed their first tacks together in the bay of Lorient.
Three months on from her release from the yard, Race for Water, the MOD70 Nr.1 skippered by Swiss sailor Stève Ravussin, headed offshore for the first time, bound for Kiel and then onto Sweden, where she will take part in her first competition: the Stockholm Gotland Runt. As for Veolia Environnement skippered by Roland Jourdain, a week on from her launch, she’s been enjoying her second sea trial!
Stève Ravussin, skipper of Race for Water: “Since Race for Water’s launch at the end of March, we’ve been linking together a series of sea and sail trials off Lorient. A lot of this has been carried out in light airs, which was a very good thing during the period of fine tuning. Today, we crossed tacks with Veolia Environnment a few times. It's the beginning of a beautiful story !”
Roland Jourdain, skipper of Veolia Environnement: “The start of the week was really symbolic for the whole Veolia Environnement team as we’ve launched into the sailing phase! Monday was more a question of getting a feel for her. Conditions weren’t that simple for a debut performance, with quite big seas and 20 knots of wind! However, everything went well! We got back safe and sound! On Tuesday we put in a few tacks with the MOD Nr. 01 in some more manageable conditions. Over the coming days and weeks there will be a series of good sessions on the water near our base in Concarneau!”
