The Hebtro Trophy Day - Worser Bay’s annual fundraiser for junior sailing is an annual event that attracts around 20 keelboats from Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, which each carrying a sponsor, their guest, and one or two junior sailors. For many, it is their first time on a keelboat.
Jon Bilger, in charge of the Alinghi weather programme in the last two America’s Cup regattas, entertained the crowd with his Cup experience and a demonstration of Predictwind. Commodore Andrew Paterson said, 'It was a great pleasure to host Jon and family at the club for this event. Jon is a great example for our junior sailors - he showed just where success in the Tanner and Tauranga cups can take you.’
The race was followed by a BBQ lunch, prize giving and an auction. The auction was a huge financial success thanks to club members Daryl Wislang (current Telefonica sailor) and Mike Boswell (involved in Volvo Ocean Race management), both of whom organised clothing and Volvo memorabilia for the auction. Jon too contributed some of his Alinghi sailing gear which was in hot demand. A beautiful water colour painting of the club took top dollar.
