The Russians are coming...

Karol Jablonski lived up to his 'Weisser Hai' nickname in the pre-start. The killer instinct of the great white shark was to the fore as he got on the tail of Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ), then split off, returned to sail over the top of Barker, then luffed ETNZ into tacking and heading for the right-hand side of the line, as Synergy took the left at the pin and crossed the starting line at speed with an advantage of a few metres over her opponent.
Racing was close up the first beat, and ETNZ kept in contention throughout, with the finishing time difference of 36 seconds reflecting the light wind conditions.
