Red Bull Youth America's Cup : German Youth Sailing Team Seeks Financial Support from Sailing Magazine Readers

German magazine SegelReporter is raising funds from its readers to send the German Youth Sailing Team to the Red Bull Youth America's Cup in San Francisco, at the request of its readers, it claims!

The America's Cup's Stephen Barclay is supporting this news, so clearly Germany has not officially withdrawn its team and they can go ahead if the funds are raised.

Liebe Leser,

Dear Readers,

This long Pentecost weekend was marked for SegelRacer.com in terms of long telephone calls re. Red Bull Youth America's Cup. The German Youth Team has decided to go ahead on their own and we want to help.

The Sailing Team Germany/Norddeutscher Regatta Verein in the Red Bull Youth America's Cup

Many readers have bombarded us to publish an account in which donations can be deposited. But this process must be secured. Therefore, we have received advice from the friendly notary Dr. Sönke Peters to assist SegelRacer along the way.

Peters sailed on the Farr 40 of Wolfgang Schaefer, with, among others, Andrew Simpson and Iain Percy as helmsman. He has opened to us the means to take deposits over a notary account. However, every donor must send a signed form by mail. We found that altogether too cumbersome.

The path through current crowdfunding websites should be possible. Part of the sailors currently makes smart about the options. The boys are advised by sailing supporters with legal or economic background. In the coming weeks, a new platform to be built, on the expiry of the communication about the project. Regardless of this, we now want to quickly create a way for SegelRacer to collect money.

Peters advised us to make this available through our account. All transfers that are provided with the keyword German Youth AC team, we will go to the guys. Ensure that the amounts are recorded transparently and no one can believe that we are expanding our boat park, the donor will be published with amount and name at SegelRacer.com. On request, only with initials.

Payment by bank account is set up with use of the keyword and specifying how the assignment is to be noted on SegelRacer.

SegelReporter Verlag GmbH:

Payment by Paypal is specified under SegelReporter.com. After the entry of an amount and logging in a "naming on SR window appears desirable? How ". There you can enter German Youth AC team and if you want to be identified by your full name or only with your initials.

★ ★ Note: We forgot to point out that PayPal when transferring between two and three percent fees charged. For a fee of 50 EUR 1.30 EUR remain at PayPal. We can according to forward only the net amount. So if you want to bypass the easy way PayPal, pay directly to the bank account. ★ ★

The question of return of the money in the event of a failure of the project is a difficult one. If, altogether insufficient money is brought together to send our youth team to San Francisco, it will very troublesome for our mini-team to execute remittances with a given transfer speed. Therefore, to the money will go to eligible youth projects in sailing the money in this case. Applications will be put to SR, and the readers will vote on them. The framework for this we would need to develop, if participation in the RBYAC actually fails.

Currently, the boys are still researching the éxact budget required. A total amount of 80,000 euros has been suggested in order to achieve a certain degree of competitiveness in San Francisco. The includes taking coach Markus Koy along on the trip. The exact amount for the budget will be updated on SegelRacer.com. The first hurdle is a sum of almost € 16,000 for insurance and deposit. This must be paid within three weeks.

Honest Post

The subject of money is serious. It is also about the credibility of SegelRacer and we hope that our motivation for using as an honest contribution to the project will help. We will provide, from SegelReporter Verlag GmbH, € 1,000 in the pot.

We consider the story of the youth teams, in addition to absolute dedication to this dream, also brings the necessary power potential, as it is exciting that one of Germany's most beautiful sailing stories may occur.
SegelRacer will report regularly on the progress and present the sailors. We hope that the community must muster only a part of the budget. Initial discussions with potential sponsors appear to be very promising.

Andreas is reminded on the subject especially by his co-founding of the first German America's Cup project. He developed the concept of Fresh17, to provide young professionals with local sensation in Germany. However, it was planned from the positive underdog campaign to sponsor the entry of United Internet, a somewhat problematic professional appearance with high expectations and unfulfilled hopes.

This danger should not threaten German youth sailors. Your positive spirit could inspire the entire German sailing sport. We are all excited to find the enthusiasm of the German sailing community. Let's see how far this can lead the way.

The German presence at the Red Bull Youth America's Cup

49er sailors Erik healing (23, Kiel, Germany), Max Boehme (21, Kiel) Justus Schmidt (20, Schonwalde), the laser sailor Philipp Buhl (23, Sonthofen) and Max Kohl Hoff (19, Kiel), 470 sailors David Heitzig (22, Hamburg) and the Big Boat Specialist Michael Seifarth (20, Unterwoessen) qualified in a fast-casting method in southern France for the German team.
After only one day of training on a Extreme 40 catamaran nobody acknowledged the ragtag team of Germany in qualifying for the Red Bull Youth America's Cup in San Francisco a chance. But it convinced the jury by local peaks in the fitness tests and an enormously steep learning curve in the new wing sail catamarans
Note from SailRaceWin: With all this going on, you can be sure that if the German Yaouth America's Cup team makes it to the Red Bull Youth America's Cup in San Francisco, they will be motivated like nothing on earth!
