Farr 30 European Championship 2011 in Kiel, Germany

by Hermann Hell

In 2011 the Farr 30 International One Design class will crown their European Champion during Kieler Woche and with that celebrate the class debut in Northern Europe at the largest regatta in the world.

‘It is a great decision of the Farr 30 class which shows us that classes feel comfortable to host their international championships within Kieler Woche and encourages us as organizers to continue on this level,’ says Eckard von der Mosel, who is in charge of offshore and OD classes at Kieler Woche. ‘Together with the class we will be underlining the high quality of the event and once again offering a top championship,’ continues von der Mosel.

From 23 - 26 June 2011 the Farr 30 European Championship will be a highlight of the international part in the second half of the event.

‘The excellent reputation of Kieler Woche and its organizers was a great motivation for us to be part of the event’, says the Farr 30 International Class President, Deneen Demourkas (USA). ‘Kieler Woche has a unique flair and is well known over the world for its great sailing, professional race management and the fantastic possibilities being offered to participating classes. It is a perfect venue for the Farr 30, now growing rapidly in Northern Europe,’ adds Patrick Lindblom (SWE), Farr 30 Scandinavian Fleet Captain, who initiated the Farr 30’s involvement in Kieler Woche.

As the largest regatta in the world with about 2,000 participating yachts and 5,000 sailors coming from more than 50 nations, Kieler Woche belongs to the international top events worldwide. The annual Sailing World Cup (a must for all Olympic sailors) together with various World and European championships have been the highlights of Kieler Woche and its 128 years of history. Starting on 20 June 2011, the event will not only offer high-class sailing but also a fantastic festival on land.
