LVT: Artemis training off La Maddalena
by Jennifer Hall
Following on from Artemis' podium finish in the TP52 Portugal Trophy last week in Cascais, Torbjorn Tornqvist's team is now in La Maddalena (Italy) preparing for the start of the Louis Vuitton Trophy, which begins this Saturday.
Organised by the World Sailing Teams Association (WSTA), the Sardinian event is the third Louis Vuitton Trophy regatta for the Swedish team, who finished fourth in the Louis Vuitton Trophy – Auckland less than two months ago. Training starts today in the stunning archipelago of La Maddalena, a familiar ‘race course’ for most of the teams.
The opening ceremony, press conference and draw will take place this Friday and racing runs through to June 6th. The impressive entry list includes winners of the 33rd America’s Cup, BMW Oracle Racing, along with the winners of the previous two events, Emirates Team New Zealand and AZZURRA.
“Sardinia has been the venue for some of the most prestigious regattas over the last 40 years and I have had the pleasure to sail in many of them. Artemis is looking forward to the Louis Vuittion Trophy here in La Maddalena and the opportunity to race against some of the leading international sailing teams,” said Paul Cayard, Skipper of Artemis.
The Artemis crew for the Louis Vuitton Trophy – La Maddalena includes: Paul Cayard (Tactician), Terry Hutchinson (Helmsman), Jared Henderson (Pit), Cameron Appleton (Strategist), Kevin Hall (Navigator), Noel Drennan (Main), Andy Fethers (Bow), Phil Jameson (Mid bow), David Brooke (Mast), Sean Clarkson (Traveller), Robbie Naismith (Trimmer), Morgan Trubovich (Trimmer), Ian Baker (Grinder), Craig Monk (Grinder), Magnus Auguston (Grinder), Mark Newbrook (Grinder), Rodney Daniel (Runner/Pit), Michele Ivaldi (Reserve), Daniel Fong (Reserve) and David Endean (Reserve).
