A fresh look at learn to sail and introducing racing and cruising

by Jodie Bakewell-White

Yachting New Zealand are in the process of giving the current Dinghy Learn to Sail Level 1 and 2 programme an upgrade. We are making the log books more informative and exciting including tips and notes for coaches, new diagrams, windsurfing and different types of boats.

We are also writing a Learn to Race programme and Learn to Cruise programme that follows on from Learn to Sail, for those accustomed to the Level 1 and 2 system, these programmes will be at Level 3.

Learn to Race will be for those sailors looking to progress in to Green Fleet and then in to regular racing and regattas. Learn to Cruise will teach seamanship skills in a dinghy for sailors looking for more adventure cruising dinghies.

We are now at the point where we are looking to contract someone to help write the new material. We are looking for someone who has a background in teaching Learn to Sail and Learn to Race, who has good writing and communication skills. Experience in putting together programmes and writing this type of material is preferred. If you think this is you or you would like some more information then get in touch with Andrew Clouston via email at andrew@yachtingnz.org.nz
