Lake Te Anau recently experienced very high lake levels and as such Marakura Yacht club members decided to take precautionary measures on the 29th of April and remove the clubs boats from storage.
The following morning the bottom of the club had over 100mm quietly washing through it.
Over Sunday 18th and Monday 19th of April the lake came up over one metre in just twelve hours, the total rise was at just on three metres when Iain Campbell from the Club reported in last month.
“It is hardly surprising I guess when you consider that in that period the township had close on 200mm of rain and up in the mountains at the head of the lake they collected 400mm for the same period,” says Campbell.
