B Lin Wins Audi Invitational, Brontolo Leads Series in Melges 32s in Sardinia

Among the Melges 32 fleet currently racing in Porto Cervo B Lin Sailing owned by Luca Lalli took victory in the Audi Invitational 2010 while Filippo Pacinotti’s Brontolo leads the overall classification in this third leg of the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series 2010.

The first race of the day was the out-of-circuit race disputed for the Audi Invitational trophy. The Audi Invitational event, now in its 7th edition, sees Italian celebrities participate as part of the crew aboard one-design racing boats. Winner B Lin Sialing.com of Italy led from the off ahead of Roark owned by Holland’s Kees Kaan.

Following the Audi Invitational, racing then continued in the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series 2010. The fleet of 16 Melges 32 craft started on schedule in approximately 10-11 knots of breeze from 010° and it was Brontolo, with Sweden’s Frederick Loof on tactics, that led around the first leeward mark followed by Mauro Moccheggiani’s Rush Diletta and Lanfranco Cirillo’s Fantasticaa in third. Fantasticaaa gained ground on the final two legs to take the lead and cross the finish line ahead of Brontolo and B Lin Sailing.com.

Together with the points gained in yesterday’s first race of the series, the overall classification now has Brontolo in first place followed by B Lin Sailing.com and Edoardo Lupi’s Torpyone.

The social programme organized by title sponsor Audi in collaboration with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda which included last night’s gala dinner at the YCCS Clubhouse continues today with the traditional after-race refreshments on the Club’s Piazza Azzurra and will conclude tomorrow, Sunday 27th June, with the final prize giving. During the ceremony the Audi Invitational Trophy will be awarded as well as prizes for the top three classified boats in this leg of the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series.

Racing is scheduled to continue tomorrow, Sunday 27th June, at 12 midday with 6 to 8 knots of east south easterly breeze predicted.
