The morning saw light, fickle, breezes, so light and fickle that the race committee eventually sent the competitors ashore. Proceedings commenced in earnest from 2pm in the afternoon, and 15 matches were completed on day one of the Master de España, ISAF Grade 2, Match Race, run by El Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona, Spain, and sponsored by Valiant and SLAM.

While there were no Austrian teams present to capitulate to the French (Morvan) as had happened with Napoleon in Germany on 20th October 1805, PAM and his team lost only to Littoz on day one, finishing with a 3-1 scorecard. It was also PAM's birthday, so the good result added a bonus to the celebrations.

Unbeaten on day one, with scores of 3-0 and 2-0, respectively, were Ian Ainslie (RSA) and Alvaro Marinho (POR). Littoz, Echegoyen and Paez all won two races and lost one. Manuel Weiller finished the day on 1-2, while Tabb, Aleixo and Aschenbreener have yet to break their duck, sitting on 0-3.
