More exciting racing today in Muscat. The weather was very similar to yesterday. As was the format of racing - more "stadium racing". Of course, we were hoping that absolutely everything would be the same as yesterday! It was just such a good day on all levels. But we all knew the reality. This is a fleet full of very good sailors and doing a repeat of that score line was improbable.

So we discussed our goal for the day. Our goal would be the same as the day before. To try to finish the day with an average of 4 points per race or better. In the end we came up a little short of that goal, averaging a 4.8 over the 8 races. But it could have been worse.

We started the day with more of the very short stadium races that we had done the day before. It was our turn to feel the heat of being in the back of the fleet. In the first two races we scored a 10th and a 9th after we got buried amongst other boats on the short course.

I am pretty sure all four of us were thinking the same thing...uh oh, not one of these days! But it got a lot better from there. We were able to stick to our guns and didn’t let those two bad races to spoil the rest of our day. We stopped the bleeding in the third race of the day, finishing 2nd and getting our confidence back up.

From there we scored a 5,2,8,1,2. So after 8 races today we are still in second place for the event. Our goal has always been to sail the first 4 days of the event in a manner that gets us to the last day with a chance to win. That is where we are. There are a lot of points left on the table (8 races a day is a lot!), so anything can happen, but we will be giving everything we have tomorrow to finish strong in our first ever Extreme 40 event together!
