Christchurch - from Dean Barker

Waking up in Muscat I was shocked to see the breaking news regading the earthquake in Christchurch. I cannot begin to explain how remote you feel when you are so far from home and hear such terrible news.
Sitting here hours later I still feel stunned. It is hard to even think about preparing for today's racing given the scope of disaster in one of New Zealand's most beautiful cities.
I would just like to extend my deepest sympathies to all those who have been affected by this disaster.

From SailRaceWin:
We echo Dean Barker's sentiments. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible disaster.
Anyone wanting to find out about family and friends - the advice is that the Canterbury phone system is over-used; Twitter is being used for this purpose, but it is best to ring national numbers: 0800 733 276 (0800 RED CROSS) or +64 785 02199 from outside the country.
Donations are requested as cash only at present, and may be made to the Red Cross, Salvation Army or any New Zealand bank (in all cases specify "Canterbury Earthquake Appeal").
