YNZ: Keeping up with the Big Issues
by Jodie Bakewell-White
The Yachting New Zealand AGM presented an opportunity to review and discuss current key issues which pose a challenge to our sport. Without our attention, and action, these key issues have the potential to threaten yachting’s future by encroaching on the coastal and inland waters which we use regularly for recreation and competition.
Matters such as Resource Management, New Zealand’s Coastal Policy Statement and the growth of New Zealand’s aquaculture industry are hot topics and Yachting New Zealand provides a voice for all of New Zealand’s yachties and boaties in lobbying to ensure we don’t lose our national aquatic playground.
A record of submissions made by Yachting New Zealand is published on www.yachtingnz.org.nz
Also available to download now on our website are two interesting and relevant reports...
One from Philip Milne, Chair of the YNZ Cruising & Powerboat Committee and Environmental Lawyer, outlining Resource Management and related issues over the next few years.
The other is a report published by the New Zealand Centre for Political Research (NZCPR) from Dr Muriel Newman entitled; The key changes to the foreshore and seabed legislation.
