Black Swan Racing at the Open de Espana, Calpe

Today was the first day of racing here at the grade 1 in Calpe Spain. The venue is amazing however it didn't deliver much wind.

We had four races today finishing with 2 wins 2 losses. Although an average day on the scoreboard we felt it was a good day on the water. Our 2 losses came on the final legs of both races, in light and difficult conditions. Against world number 5 Ian Williams it was a small tactical/ crew work mistake at the top mark allowing Williams to take the favoured side down the run. Against Simone Ferrarese we struggled a little for downwind speed, which we now feel more comfortable with.

Our 2 wins came against Manuel Weiller of Spain and Phil Robertson of New Zealand. We feel we are sailing at a high level so just need to keep the momentum. The format is very tough with only the top 4 of 12 progressing to the finals round, but we are determined to make it.
