Today was day 1 at the Open de Espana in Calpe, Spain (Grade 1). Coming back to where it all started two years ago for Waka Racing, it has been enjoyable so far.
Today was a reasonable start for the team. With four races the team won 2, lost 2. Wins against Manuel Weiller (Esp), and Simon Ferrarese (Ita). With losses against fellow kiwi Reuben Corbett and Keith Swinton (Aus). Conditions were light with clear sky's and a pleasant 24 degrees.
Tomorrow, weather permitting should see us racing against Bertrand Pace (Fra), Evan Walker (Aus), Staffan Lindberg (Fin) and finally Ian Williams (Eng).
With the team now having five permanent members. We have the luxury of being able to pick the right team for the right boat, when it comes to the four man events. This regatta we have James Williamson sitting out as coach, which is a huge bonus. Having an extra set of eyes to see what we are doing right and wrong. Also keeping a close eye on the competition and conditions is priceless. The team racing is Phil Robertson, Garth Ellingham, Sam Bell and Hayden Goodrick.
Day One results:
Robertson 2-2
Williams 4-0
Pace 3-4
Hansen 2-2
Morvan 2-2
Marinho 2-2
Lindberg 2-2
Ferrarese 2-2
Swinton 2-2
Walker 1-3
Corbett 1-3
Weiller 1-3
