Along with the finish of the 6th race, the Groupama Garancia F18 World Championship’s qualifying section also ended. Tomorrow the competitors can continue the race listed to “golden” or “silver” class.

“The qualifying is over. The participants have been divided into four groups so far, but now they will continue the regatta in two classes. The first 50 are the “golden”, the others are the “silver” class, so the silvers won’t be able to influence the championship’s final result,” – Attila R. Nagy, the president of the BYC said. “Succeeding to close the qualifying section the world championship is officially valid. If we are lucky, the wind keeps blowing and the races will continue,” Peter Süle organizer added.

The Hungarian surprise of the day was the Váradi – Petheö team’s very good appearance, who followed the Australian champion Darren Bundock and then they finished on the fifth place in their group. “There was a fortunate northwestern wind, so we could turn well and hold our position for a while but in the end we tailed away. I am satisfied with the result, as I said earlier it’s fantastic if a Hungarian competitor could get in the golden class. My crew, Petheö Tamás worked so well and our catamaran is really great,” János Váradi Szabó said.

The Diószegi – Jankovics team, who performed well before, had no luck today. “We were in the group which was started and stopped three times. There was a section when we were on the seventh place, but it was also cancelled. On the fourth time we unfortunately couldn’t keep pace,” Zoltán Diószegi said.

About the whole field there were no big surprises. On the first place there is the Dutch Coen de Koning - Thye Visser team, and the second place is possessed by the also Dutch Mischa Heemskerk and Bastian Tentij. They are followed by the Australian Darren Bundock - Jeroen van Leeuwen, and the French Moana Vaireaux - Romain Petit duo. On the fifth place there is a Dutch team again, Pim Nieuwenhuis and Ferdinand van West. The most successful Hungarian team, the Váradi – Petheö duo stands on the 28th place. The only other Hungarian group in the golden class is the Diószegi – Jankovics team on the 48th place.
