Zwitserleven Round Texel Race : A Bit Too Much at the Start...
by Diana Bogaards
It was only Thursday that Olympian sailor Renee Groeneveld decided to come to Texel. She replaces Froukje Feenstra, who fell sick. Her crew Mischa de Munck found a new helmsman in Renee. She is a very talented and successful Olympian sailor, but beach cats are new business for her. And there she is back on the beach. What happened? "Well, it was a bit too much for a first time. We sailed out early to practice, but we capsized right on the starting line at the gun”, explains Groeneveld.
"But we started with the first 40”, adds Mischa with a laugh. They decided to safe the equipment and went back to the beach. Despite this rough debut, Renee enjoys it very much: "I have a new hobby.” Who know to what this will lead? "Have you seen our sail number”, asks Mischa. "It is 2016.”
Collisions
Favourites Sunnucks/Egan collided just before the start and are out of the race. The same happened to Carolijn Brouwer/Jeroen Van Leeuwen.
