The TP52 fleet raced this afternoon for the last time in the 2010 Audi MedCup season, concluding today in Cagliari. The wind became too strong after the last race, and the race committee had to cancel racing for the rest of the day.
Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE finished this event in a great shape, by winning the last race (which is also its second win in this event), in a strong mistral wind that reached 25 to 30 knots.
The French-German team takes the 2nd place on the Region of Sardinia Trophy's podium, like they did on the opening event of the 2010 Audi MedCup in May in Cascais.
Jochen Schümann, Skipper: "We had a great day. We finished first in the only race that happened today. It was really on the upper edge as we sailed in over 30 knots downwind with spinnakers. The team proved we could handle it. We are probably one of the teams who didn't do any mistakes, so that's why we kept gaining in the last leg and overtaking a few boats that had some breaks. So it was on the limit and in the end I was not surprised that there was no second race today. Finishing second overall is fantastic after the bad luck with the crash and not so successful offshore race. It's good to finish the year like that!"
Sebastien Col, Tactician: "it is a great pleasure to finish the Audi MedCup's season with a win, but also with an other spot on the podium for our team after Cascais and Marseille. So it's three times on the podium out of five regattas in the season.
It's really a big satisfaction, and I'm proud of the team that managed to go through the difficulties we met in Barcelona and Cartagena. I think that we really grew up together, and it is a very good sign for the future."
Stephane Kandler, ALL4ONE's CEO: "It was our first season on the Audi MedCup and our entry on the circuit happened with very little preparation, so I think we can be satisfied with our performance. The level of this class is very high and we had to face the best sailing teams of the world, of which many are ex-future America's Cup challengers or sailing on the circuit since many years. By regularly beating established and much more funded teams, but also achieving 3 podiums in 5 stages of the Audi MedCup (plus one in the Louis Vuitton Trophy), ALL4ONE has proven that the team is competitive against the best ones on any regatta circuit. We still have two major events to compete in: The TP52 World Championships in Valencia, and the Louis Vuitton Trophy in Dubai. We are very ambitious for this season's end in order to prove again the incredible potential of this team, whose objective from day one was to become a constant top player on the international sailing scene, including the America's Cup, of which we now know the major developments. Our knowhow is now proven and ALL4ONE shall be counted as one of the very strong contenders. "
