The Alinghi Extreme Sailing Series crew has christened their new Extreme 40 racing yacht at the pre-season training camp in Oman this week.

Built in Sweden by Marstrom, this Extreme 40 is the 10th new boat launched by the Swiss team, and the 20th addition to the Alinghi fleet over the years.
Up until this point the team had been training with a catamaran acquired by Alinghi at the end of last season, which had previously contested the series.

The Alinghi sailing crew, consisting of Ernesto Bertarelli, Tanguy Cariou, Yves Detrey, Nils Frei, Yann Guichard and Pierre-Yves Jorand, with the additional contribution of Extreme 40 specialists Mark Bulkeley and Fred Lemaistre, will now continue with their two-boat training programme in Oman, ensuring they are 100% ready for the start of the 2011 season in less than two weeks' time at The Wave, in Muscat.

For the time being, the weather in Oman has brought perfect sailing conditions and the majority of teams are already in Oman preparing themselves for the first event of the Extreme Sailing Series.
