NZ F18 Nationals: Black Sheep Racing in Top Two Spots on Day One

by Reuben Corbett

Given the change in direction of the America’s Cup and the emergence of a youth America’s Cup, Black Sheep Racing have spent the summer learning a new discipline, multi hull sailing. Specifically: fleet and match racing Formula 18 catamarans, the odd bout in Nacra 20s and a special outing in the newly released AC45. It’s a real blast sailing and competing at such speeds!

Black Sheep Racing have entered two teams in the F18 National Championships. At the conclusion of day one, it couldn’t have been better as the team dominated proceedings occupying both 1st and 2nd place in every race!

After three races Brad Farrand and James Sandall lead with a score of 4 with Reuben Corbett and Tom Bentham in hot pursuit on 5. Three races remain tomorrow despite the forecast tending on the lighter side of ten knots. Seven teams are competing in this
championship including four of New Zealand’s top F18 teams and notably another youth team Phil Robertson’s Waka Racing.

Black Sheep Racing would like to thank SLAM New Zealand for supplying us with clothing and Andrew Macpherson (Macca) for his wisdom and knowledge in multi hull sailing. Thank you!

Black Sheep prepare for tomorrow’s fight back from the remainder of the fleet.

Black Sheep Racing is Reuben Corbett, Tom Bentham, James Sandall and Brad Farrand.
