Portimao Portugal Match Cup : Aon Racing

by Aon Racing media

Aon Racing has made it to Portimao on the South coast of Portugal for the 4th stage in the World Match Racing tour. The regatta is sailed in the big Swedish Match 40's, a physically challenging boat to sail. An extremely tough line up of seasoned Match Racing teams have arrived to contest the title, including the following skippers:

Jesper Radich (DEN)
Torvar Mirsky (AUS)
Damien Iehl (FRA)
Peter Gilmour (AUS)
Mathieu Richard (FRA)
Johnie Berntsson (SWE)
Ian Williams (GBR)
Francesco Bruni (ITA)
Alvaro Marinho (POR)
Olli-Pekka Lumijärvi (FIN)
Reuben Corbett (NZL)
Björn Hansen (SWE)

Racing began this afternoon following a long delay due to a lack of wind. The team had an intense start to the regatta, sailing 5 races between 4:30 and 7:30pm.

Unfortunately we finished the day with only one win against Peter Gilmour, among a number of very close races. In a race identical to our match in Korea, Damien Iehl was again given a green flag for a marginal penalty clearance on the finish line. We also had close races against Mathieu Richard and Björn Hansen.

Live results are posted on the World Tour website, www.wmrt.com

We would to thank our principal sponsor, Aon Insurance Brokers, as well as Club Marine and Allianz for their support. Thanks also to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and our friends and family.

Aon Racing is Reuben Corbett (Skipper), Adrian Short (Main), Nicolas Deberque (Trim), Tom Blampied (Pit) and Tom Bentham (Bow).
