Pierre Keller and Stève Ravussin have presented today at the ECAL (University of art and design Lausanne) the graphic design of the new MOD70 boat “Race for Water” that the Swiss skipper will sail through the oceans. The boat is the ambassador boat of Multi One Attitude Foundation. It is a collaboration between Multi One Design, the Foundation and the ECAL. The design chosen has been created by Romain Collaud, student in his first year of Bachelor in visual communication (specialized in graphic design) at the ECAL.
What have Stève Ravussin and Pierre Keller in common? Until now, it was their taste for good food and wines and an impetuous character…. And today, we can add a boat! A close friendship has linked these two men for many years. Therefore while Stève Ravussin was explaining his new project, the launch of a new series of 70 feet multihulls, the MOD70, he naturally proposed to Pierre Keller a collaboration. The competition starts next year with an oceanic race and a European Tour and Stève Ravussin will take the helm of the MOD70 nr. 1.

“My boat, named “Race for Water” is the ambassador boat of the Multi One Attitude Foundation that we created in parallel to the Multi One Championship. The Foundation is interested with water issues, in particularly the ocean preservation. One of the missions of the Foundation is to attract young people. First we have elaborated an educational program for kids with Titeuf as a main character. Then, we have initiated a collaborative program with schools and universities. It seemed natural to me to involve the ECAL in the graphic design!” says Stève Ravussin, holder of the round the world sailing speed record and winner of many transatlantic races.
The graphic design has been chosen after an internal competition. It was created by Romain Collaud (born in 1988 in Saint-Aubin, canton de Fribourg). He is doing his Bachelor in graphic design at the University of art and design Lausanne (ECAL). His project was supervised by Pierre Keller, Director, Alexis Georgacopoulos, in charge of the Master in Product Design, and Vincent Jacquier, in charge of the Visual Communication Department. Romain Collaud has been invited to the Official Christening of the MOD70 nr 1 “Race for Water” that will take place on the 25th March 2011 in Lorient (France).

Pierre Keller et Stève Ravussin ont dévoilé aujourd’hui à l’ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, le design graphique du nouveau bateau MOD70 «Race for Water» du skipper vaudois destiné à parcourir les océans. Il s’agit d’une collaboration entre Multi One Design, la Fondation Multi One Attitude, dont le bateau « Race for Water » est l’ambassadeur, et l’ECAL. Le projet sélectionné a été réalisé par Romain Collaud, étudiant en première année dans le cadre du Bachelor en Communication visuelle (orientation Design graphique) de l’ECAL.
Qu’est-ce que Stève Ravussin et Pierre Keller ont en commun ? Jusqu’à maintenant, c’était le goût pour la bonne chère, les grands vins et un caractère fougueux… Aujourd’hui, c’est un bateau ! Une forte amitié lie ces deux hommes depuis plusieurs années. Or, au cours d’une conversation sur son nouveau projet, le lancement d’une nouvelle série de multicoques océaniques de 21.20 m, les MOD70, dont le championnat débute l’année prochaine avec une course océanique et un tour d’Europe, Stève Ravussin, qui prendra la barre du premier bateau de la série, propose à Pierre Keller une collaboration.
«Mon bateau, nommé «Race for Water» sera l’ambassadeur de la Fondation Multi One Attitude que nous lançons en parallèle du Multi One Championship. C’est une fondation qui va travailler sur le thème de l’eau, et en particulier sur la préservation des océans. Tout un axe de la Fondation est tourné vers les jeunes : d’une part, nous aurons un programme de sensibilisation pour les enfants, avec comme personnage clef Titeuf; et d’autre part, nous lançons un programme de collaboration avec des écoles et des universités. Il m’a donc semblé naturel d’impliquer l’ECAL dans le design graphique du bateau !» explique Stève Ravussin, détenteur du record de vitesse du tour du monde à la voile et multiple vainqueur de courses transatlantiques.
Suite à un concours interne, le design graphique du bateau a été réalisé par Romain Collaud (né en 1988, originaire de Saint-Aubin dans le Canton de Fribourg). Il étudie à l’ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, dans le cadre du Bachelor en Communication visuelle (orientation Design graphique). Le projet a été suivi pour l’ECAL par Pierre Keller, directeur, Alexis Georgacopoulos, responsable du Master en design de produit, et Vincent Jacquier, responsable du Département communication visuelle. Par ailleurs, Romain Collaud a été invité à assister au baptême officiel du premier MOD70 «Race for Water» qui aura lieu le 25 mars 2011 à Lorient.
