Across the UK people will be raising money for Comic Relief today and when record breaking British yachtswoman Dee Caffari and her Spanish co skipper, Anna Corbella, discovered it was Red Nose Day they were keen to send encouragement from the Atlantic Ocean.

“In order to support Comic Relief while we are taking part in the Barcelona World Race, Anna and I have had to resort to making our red noses from Babybel wax! Red Nose Day is always a great fundraising event that changes countless lives both in the UK and Africa. We hope that as many people as possible will be doing something funny for money today.”

Onboard GAES Centros Auditivos, the girls are smiling as improved living conditions bring warmer temperatures and promise smooth sailing for the week-end: “I know we were waiting for the temperatures to rise but literally in two days we are already feeling hot inside. It is fabulous. Showers made two very happy girls onboard Gaes today. If we are destined for light airs then you make the most of them. Clothes were changed and hair washed and it felt wonderful. Naturally we always smell of roses onboard but today the bouquet improved.”

“We have twenty four hours of upwind conditions now until we pass through a front line and then by Saturday morning we will resume some flatter more comfortable downwind conditions once again.” Caffari reported this morning.

At the 0900 hrs ranking Caffari and Corbella were in 6th place, 1084 miles behind Alex Pella and Pepe Ribes on Estrella Damm.

Aviva has been a longstanding supporter of Dee Caffari and her inspirational record breaking sailing achievements, assisting her to three world records including becoming the first woman to sail solo, non stop, around the world in both directions. As Founding Partner of Caffari’s sailing campaign, Aviva is pleased to extend this support to Corbella and GAES for the Barcelona World Race.
